The quickest and easiest way to drill tiles is to mark the required position with a pencil or marker pen and 'pop' the glaze with the pointed end of a screw by means of a light hammer blow. This gives you the rough surface the drill will always. A slightly oversised masonary drill will lesson the chances of the tile splitting once the plug and screw is delivered and remember not to use the hammer option on your power drill or you'll have some explaing to do.
